The project involved the design and construction of a new state-of-the-art medical imaging facility to accommodate upgraded MRI and CT scanner infrastructure, alongside the relocation and expansion of the existing Medical Assessment Centre within the live hospital campus.
Delivered as part of the NSW Government’s $21.85 million investment into Wollongong Hospital, the redevelopment enhanced emergency care capability, outpatient services and diagnostic imaging capacity for the Illawarra community.
The project scope included construction of a new ground floor medical imaging facility adjacent to the Emergency Department to enable rapid access to MRI and CT services for emergency patients. Works also involved the relocation of the existing Medical Assessment Centre to Level 8 of the hospital, creating expanded outpatient treatment and assessment spaces.
Construction activities incorporated structural steel installation, suspended deck construction, roofing and façade works, fire-rated wall systems, major services infrastructure, shielding installations, plant room works and full internal fitout across operational hospital environments.
